Nijo-jo Catsle

Originally built in 1603 as the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa shogun, Ieyasu. The wide moat, massive stone walls and heavy yet elaborate gates are still impressive. Nijo-jo Castle was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
